Today we remember the whisky guru, Michael Jackson (not the American singer and star), who left this world for the great whisky bar in the sky in 2007. Today is his birthday and coincidentally the night three of us whisky lovers are attending the Sarasota, Florida Whiskey Obsession Festival. About 200 different whiskies – scotch, bourbon, rye, single malts and blends will be offered. My goal is to taste the following:
Benromach Peat Smoke; Glenmorangie 25 YO and Signet; Highland Park Dark Origins; Mortlach Rare Old; Oban Little Bay, Speyburn 10 YO and Bradan Orach…..just to name a few. Then on to the American whiskies!
The big news this week is, though, that my book is now published both in print and on Kindle. Whisky Tales: Tastings and Temptations is a fun-filled “how-to” guide for tasting, collecting and pairing whisky. And as I mention in the book I had the priviledge to attend the Whisky and Words Festival in Scotland in 2009 where several of the authors of the book Beer Hunter, Whisky Chaser – an ode to Michael – were speaking. What an honor to be in the audience at that intimate presentation.
For Michael Jackson, I raise a glass.
